According to observations by agricultural meteorologists, since the beginning of the first decade of December, winter crops in most areas of Ukraine have finally entered the phase of shallow winter dormancy. As noted, only in the extreme southern and some central regions, warm weather contributed to slow growth processes in winter crop plantings. Sufficient thermal provision and optimal soil moisture created optimal conditions for rooting. "The minimum soil temperature at the node of the tillering (3 cm) of winter crops and perennial grasses in most regions decreased to 0°C – plus 5°C, locally in Chernihiv and Sumy regions – to minus 1-2°C, which is significantly above the critical freezing temperature.
