Izmir, known as Turkey's winter vegetable production base, has seen a delay in its harvest due to late cold weather. The region, which produces 280,000 tons of 15 types of vegetables annually, is leading in the production of broccoli, celery, artichoke, and spinach. The cold weather is crucial for the ripening and taste of these vegetables. Despite concerns over heat affecting ripening, it did not impact the harvest. The harvested vegetables are not only consumed domestically but also exported. Producers believe that cold weather improves the taste and quality of vegetables like leeks and celery.
