Brazilian pork consumption has seen a significant increase in 2021, reaching 18.71 kg per capita in the third quarter, marking a 13.6% increase from the same period in 2020 and a 15.7% rise from the same period in 2019, hitting an all-time high. This surge in demand is attributed to the high costs of beef and poultry, offering a more affordable protein source for families. Pork prices were observed to drop slightly, and certain cuts like boneless shoulder and ham saw substantial price hikes due to the holiday season. Swine protein production in Brazil also experienced a 9.01% growth in the third quarter compared to the previous year, with expectations to surpass 4.8 million tons by year-end, marking an 8% increase from 2020 and a 40% rise in six years.
