Brazil: With international certification, guava exports in Paraná grow 580% in three years

A practically artisanal and very profitable business. The sale of guava, with Geographical Indication (GI) and Global G.A.P seal, in Carlópolis, a pioneering north of Paraná, has made a leap in the last three years. Since opening its doors to the foreign market, the Cooperativa Agroindustrial de Carlópolis (Coac) has seen the volume of fruit exports grow by 580%. From 2020 to 2023, it went from 16,730 kg to 113,703 kg. And the increase in international sales was not greater because production capacity was affected by climate effects. Military police officer Juliano Azevedo de Oliveira Bicudo began taking care of his father's land in 2016, without any experience in the field. With the support of Coac, he began planting guava and, in 2018, harvested the first fruits.
