The World Food Program has reported that the number of food insecure Syrians has increased by 4.5 million in a year, now totaling 12.4 million, which is nearly 60% of the country's population. This surge in food insecurity is due to an economic crisis, high unemployment rates, and soaring food prices, with the cost of basic food for a family now exceeding the average salary. In the past year, food prices in Syria have risen by 236%, while the value of the Syrian pound has significantly dropped. Urgent action is needed, as the number of people in need of food aid has doubled in the past year, reaching 1.3 million, and an additional 1.8 million people are at risk of severe food insecurity.
