The community of Tubaman-Weija was known to the founders of WAD, Patrick Deegbe, an agricultural engineer, and Christiane Deegbe, a nurse, through a project. They discovered some severe logistical issues. They subsequently exported agricultural machinery in 2000 so that the cooperative in the village of Tubaman-Weija could use it.

The business relocated from Tubaman to Ghana Industrial Commercial Estate (GICEL) and then to Weija in 2003. He expanded his fresh exports to include papaya and mangoes. In 2005, the business changed its name to Wad African Foods Limited since its operations had expanded beyond Weija to include pineapples from the Ekumfi district in central Ghana, mangoes from Somanya, and almonds, coconuts, and papaya from Kwanyako.
