Peru: Will 2023 Continue to Be a Difficult Year for Fresh Blueberries? (Jan 18)

The Peruvian season of blueberries is just a few months away from completing its campaign. During W1 2023, 4.7K tons were exported, a decrease of 28% compared to the same period last season.

Peru: Senasa Certified 18,103.37 Hectares of Blueberries in 2022 in Peru (Jan 20)

The National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) certified 18,103.37 hectares of blueberries in 2022, which represented an increase of 11.13% compared to 2021, with 16,290.58 hectares. Despite the low prices, the planting area is forecasted to keep growing in 2023.

United States: Peruvian Blueberry Shipments Through Philadelphia and New York City in Us, Expected to Decrease Seasonally (Jan 19)

California experienced unprecedented flooding, and there is another storm in the Pacific Ocean, which is forecasted to bring more rain during W3. Peru’s imports of blueberries through Philadelphia and New York City area ports of entry will decrease as most growers finish the season. 

Strawberry

Peru: The Strawberry Season Ends at the National Level (Jan 17)

In Peru, the strawberry is planted mainly in the department of Lima, and the harvest season begins in August and ends in December. During the campaign that ended in December 2022, the export volume of Peruvian strawberries reached 27.7K tons, equivalent to a value of USD 52M, a decrease of 22% in volume and 15% in value compared to 2021.

South Korea: Increasing Price of Korean Strawberries in Thailand in W3 (Jan 19)

Korean strawberry prices in the Talad Thai Market increased in W3 due to the stronger Thai baht foreign exchange and the incoming Chinese New Year Holiday. In W1, the price of Korean strawberries was around USD 7.35/250g, while in W3, it was around USD 8.94/250g. Amongst imported strawberries, Korean strawberries are not the cheapest in the Thai market as prices from other origins stood as follows:

American strawberry: USD 10.61/250g

Australian strawberry: USD 8.33/250g

Local Thai strawberry (Hybrid 80): USD 7.58/kg

United States: California Strawberry Industry Tallies Up Storm Damage (Jan 20)

Due to rains, wind, and floods, the potential damages to California's strawberry farms are approaching USD 200M. The majority of farmers are cleaning up minor storm damages a few farms have experienced major damages. Erosion has washed away an estimated 350 acres.
