In W32 in the grapefruit landscape, the United States Department of Agriculture Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA FAS) predicts a 6.6% decline in European Union (EU) grapefruit production in 2022/23, mainly due to a drought-driven 8.5% decline in Spain. Spain is the EU's leading grapefruit producer, accounting for 75% of the bloc's production. The EU's grapefruit planted area may continue to grow to nearly 4 thousand hectares (ha) in 2022/23. The EU is a net importer of grapefruit, but imports are expected to decline to 215 thousand metric tons (mt) due to decreased demand due to increasing prices. United States (US) grapefruit exports to the EU have contracted in 2021/22 due to Florida's shrinking production. EU grapefruit exports are low and expected to decline marginally to 15 thousand mt in 2022/23. The main destinations for EU grapefruit are the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
