Increasing hazelnut prices and farmers holding onto their products are also causing concern. The Altıordu Agricultural Chamber urges universities to develop climate-resistant hazelnut varieties.

Georgia Anticipates Strong Hazelnut Harvest in 2024 Amid Price Increases and Production Support

The Georgian Hazelnut Producers Association expects a hazelnut harvest of 50 thousand tons in 2024, supported by the State Program to Support Nut Production. Although challenges such as soil acidity and heavy rainfall affect quality, hazelnut prices have increased. With a budget of USD 7.5 million (GEL 20 million), the program assists farmers by subsidizing agrochemicals and pesticides. In 2023, hazelnut exports from Georgia generated USD 50 million in revenue.
