Peru Will See the Mandarin Harvest Fall Due to Meteorological Factors and the Cost of Agricultural Inputs (Feb 28)

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has forecast that in the 2022/23 season, all citrus categories will experience declines in their global production due to a combination of negative factors. The world production of mandarins will decrease by 1.2MMT to the previous season, while Peru's production will drop by 20KT due to increases in labor costs, fertilizers, and erratic weather.

Chile

Chile Forecast an Increase of Mandarin Production in the 2022/23 Season (Mar 3)

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported citrus categories are forecasted to experience a decline in global production in the 2022/23 season due to adverse weather events and rising agricultural input costs. However, Chilean mandarin production is forecasted to increase from 67KT to 237KT due to favorable weather conditions and a harvest area expansion, anticipating a boost in consumption and exports with the United States as the primary export market. In contrast, the production of Peruvian mandarins is forecasted to decrease by 20KT to 550KT due to increased labor costs, high fertilizer costs, and irregular weather conditions. While consumption expects to remain stable, exports are forecast to decline due to higher transportation costs, container shortages, and rising tariffs.

Brazil

Stable Wholesale Prices of Egyptian Mandarins and Spanish Murcotts During W9 in the Brazilian Market (Mar 4)

In W9, the wholesale price of Egyptian Tango mandarins in the Brazilian market stood at USD 17.30-18.26/10kg (BRL 90-95/10kg) for Class 1. Prices have been stable throughout the Egyptian mandarin season. Spanish Murcott mandarins (Class 1), were sold at the same price in an 8kg box presentation. Murcotts have a higher wholesale price but a higher acceptance in the Brazilian market.

China

The Daily Sales of Orah Mandarins Reached 7.8KT in the Chinese Market (Feb 27)

The Wuming Orah Mandarin is in its picking season during W8 in China. The daily sales volume reached 7.8KT since the garden's opening on December 29, 2022. The subtropical monsoon region, where Wuming District, Nanning City, is situated, has fertile terrain, and it is considered the most suitable in China for the growth of fruitful citrus. Citrus fruit trees that are grown in fertile soil provide excellent yields, simple management, and strong disease resistance. It also has a perfect balance of sugar to acid, and the flesh is crisp and slags. It is possible to extend the local fruit-picking season from the end of December 2023 to the first ten days of April 2024.

Highest Volume of Chinese Wuming Mandarins Exported to Southeast Asia in 2021/22 Season (Mar 3)

This 2023 season, Wuming mandarin production is anticipated to be 4.7MT, with 2.27 MT of sales volume in W9 already sold out to 48.3%. The standard sales price is USD 1.16-1.59/kg (RMB 8-11/kg), which is equivalent to the same period in 2022, and USD 0.14kg (RMB 1/kg) higher than last week. These products are sold to Canada, Russia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and other countries. Southeast Asia has the highest sales volume, with a cumulative export of 75KT in the 2021/22 season, with sales reaching USD 1.08B (RMB 7.5B).
