Brazil: Climate impacts wheat in Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná

It is not new that the scenario in the fields of the southern half of Rio Grande do Sul has changed. It is in this landscape that cereals such as wheat, oats and triticale begin to gain space in making better use of the areas. According to the weekly survey by the National Supply Company (Conab), 29% of wheat in Brazil has already been harvested. In Rio Grande do Sul, crops are already showing the consequences of excessive rainfall and lack of hours of sunlight, especially those sown earlier. Fungal diseases are present in these crops and treatments were not sufficient to contain the damage, mainly due to excess water in the soil, which made operations unfeasible. In crops that have just entered the reproductive phase, the level of disease is lower. In Paraná, most crops are in grain filling and maturing.
