Our firm has roots in Sarajevo thanks to Mr. Beylerbeyi Barştran, a young businessman.
Beylerbeyi Barştran is credited with founding the first permanent spice, grain, and ironmonger store in what was then Ottoman Turkey when he arrived in the central Anatolian town of Kütahya in 1913.
In 1944, his son Mer Barştran launched his own wholesale business in the spice trades in Istanbul, carrying on the family business.
Haluk Barştran, who represents the third generation, joined his father's business soon after earning his pharmacy degree from the Nişantaş School of Pharmacy in 1974.
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005, Dil Koray (née Barştran) became the fourth generation of Barştrans to work in the family business alongside her father, carrying on the custom of a smooth transition roughly every 30 years!
Barştran A. was incorporated as a private company in 1984 and is currently regarded as one of the most reputable suppliers of dairy components, dried vegetables, spices, and food ingredients to the Turkish and international food industries.
