Hill Top Farm is located in the North York Moors National Park, just four miles north of the town of Carby Moorside. The farm has only 100 acres of land with 'communal rights' to raise sheep on adjacent moors. Today it produces organic rum and about 20 hectares of crops (milled wheat and rye) that have been grown intermittently since his 1975. After harvesting in 2005, the company chose to mill the organically grown wheat using an 80 year old wooden 'forage' mill fitted with Derbyshire chips.
A very special Astrier Mills, that soon found sourcing grain from other organic farms in North and East Yorkshire. This allows the company to mill and distribute the highest quality flour in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner. By milling local produce, it minimizes food mileage, reduces transportation costs and creates a mutually beneficial trade network between farmers, millers, bakers and customers.
