In 2021, Germany's apple harvest remained steady at around 1.0 million tons, showing a slight decrease of 1.8% from the previous year but a 4.6% increase compared to the long-term average from 2011 to 2020. The major apple-producing regions, Altes Land and Lake Constance, saw over 9% higher harvest volumes than the average. The majority of the harvested apples (76.1%) were sold for dessert use, with the rest used for processing or as losses. On the other hand, the plum harvest saw a significant decrease of 14.3% due to adverse weather conditions, with the majority of the harvest coming from Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg. Overall, apples made up about 89.3% of the total tree fruit harvest in Germany, with plums contributing 3.5%.
