Shimen County in Hunan, China, has started its 54th consecutive citrus harvest season, marking it as the leading citrus export county in the country. The county produces about one-fifth of China's total citrus exports, primarily tangerines, and has a citrus industry comprehensive income of 1.17 billion yuan. In 2020, China's citrus exports reached 1.045 million tons, valued at 1.58 billion US dollars. However, the citrus industry faces challenges such as the inability of most domestic orchards and enterprises to meet European and American market standards, the need for upgrading and transformation, vulnerability to diseases, and issues of vicious competition and mutual price reduction among enterprises.
