The landscape of Snakefruit export of Indonesia

Through the Ministry of Agriculture, the government aggressively encourages the export of various leading commodities, such as salak, salacca, or snake fruit. The Director-General of Horticulture, Ministry of Agriculture, stated that salak is a fruit that thrives in Indonesia and is unavailable in other countries with its various varieties, namely salak pond oh, nglumut, granulated sugar, Padang sidempuan, and sari diamond 48.

Export of salak fills the market in Asia and several other countries. Meanwhile, the export destination countries for salak are China, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Timor Leste, Netherlands, Qatar, Hong Kong, Germany, and England. The area of salak cultivation in 2018 reached 23,204 hectares with a production of 983,000 MT spread across several centers, such as Sleman, Magelang, Banjarnegara, South Tapanuli, and Karangasem regencies.
