The first shipment of Chilean cherries for the 2023 season reached the Brazilian wholesale market in W47 via air transport. However, cherries displayed considerable skin cracking, leading to an estimated loss of 20-30% of fruits in each box. This cracking was attributed to rain in both Oct-23 and Nov-23, causing the skin to burst due to high water concentration. Importers anticipate a decrease in quality for cherries this season, influenced by the adverse weather conditions. Consequently, this is expected to result in lower prices and increased availability of lower-grade categories in the market.
