The General Directorate of Forestry in Turkey is advocating for the cultivation of truffles, a expensive mushroom species, in the country. Truffles, which are sought after by gourmets and chefs worldwide for their aroma and high nutritional value, can be produced in various regions of Turkey. The General Directorate of Forestry has established a truffle forest and produces around 20,000 truffle grafted saplings annually. Due to Turkey's location in different climatic zones, it is possible to supply truffles to the market for 12 months of the year. Currently, truffles in Turkey are worth around 220 million liras and are collected by approximately 400 trufflers. It is projected that the global trade volume of truffles will reach $6 billion in the next 10 years.
