The Moldovan National Statistics Bureau reported a 13.3% decrease in the country's general agricultural production from January-March 2021, totaling 1.72 billion MDL, compared to the same period in the previous year. This decline was primarily due to a 13.5% decrease in animal production, which accounts for 99% of the total production. This decrease was attributed to a 13.1% drop in farming and household production of animals, driven by a 14.4% and 10.6% decrease in agricultural holdings and households, respectively. Additionally, there was a 16.2% decrease in milk production in households, leading to a 14.6% decrease in total milk production, while milk production in agricultural holdings increased by 1.1%. Total egg production also decreased by 13.9%, with a 15.1% decrease in agricultural holdings and an 11.4% decrease in households. However, the number of cattle has only increased in agricultural holdings, while the number of animals has decreased in all other types of businesses.
