During the 12th week of the 2022/2021 export season, Egypt saw a significant increase in cotton exports, with about 120 tons of felt cotton exported, bringing the total to 27.8 thousand tons and a value of $145.1 million. The highest price achieved for 'Giza 94' cotton was about 4,500 pounds per quintal. The export season has seen 14 countries importing Egyptian cotton, with a total of 1.250 million quintals produced for the 2021 crop. Despite an expected decrease in quantity due to high prices, the value of exports is anticipated to increase compared to the previous season. The internal trading system has seen a price increase of approximately 3,600 pounds per quintal over the last season, with the government implementing an auction system for cotton purchase from farmers in 14 governorates for the first time in 2021.
