The Korean government, in an effort to stabilize domestic supply and demand, has started exporting onions to Asian countries including Vietnam and Japan. The Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation will export 1,903 tons of onions produced in 2023. This follows a 4.7% increase in onion cultivation in 2024 to counter supply and demand instability. The decision to export was made in consultation with agricultural cooperatives and producer groups. Additionally, the government plans to promote the release of onions for processing to end-user companies.
