In April, Cameroon experienced a significant decline in banana exports, with a 23.6% decrease compared to the same period last year, totaling 4,319 tonnes. This marks the worst performance of the year following slight decreases in January and February. The Cameroonian banana association, Assobacam, noted the cause of this drop but did not provide any explanation, suggesting that low production due to dry seasons and high costs of international inputs could be potential factors. Cameroon currently ranks as the second-largest banana producer among the African-Caribbean-Pacific (ACP) countries, following Côte d'Ivoire.
