2/3 of wheat harvested, drop in average yield in Bulgaria

2/3 of the wheat area, or 68% of the fields, which are 1,208,584 ha, have been harvested, with the production that has been harvested from the harvested areas amounting to 4,296,488 tons, the Ministry of Agriculture reported in an operational analysis of the main agricultural crops. According to operational data, the harvested production of wheat and rye is respectively 44.8% and 11.8% higher than reported at the same time last year, which is due to the faster rate of harvesting of the areas during the current harvest campaign. So far, the production of barley, rapeseed and triticale is lagging behind between 0.8% and 6% on an annual basis, due to a decrease in average yields per hectare, the analyzes also indicate. The average yield per hectare of wheat equals 522 kg, which is nearly 14% below last year's levels, the accounts also show.
