The Thai food industry experienced an 8.6% production drop in the first half of 2020 due to COVID-19 lockdown measures. Despite this, exports were slightly down by 2.0% to 505,584 million baht, with processed food products expanding slightly while agricultural raw materials contracted by 3.7%. However, exports are expected to turn positive in the second half of the year, reaching approximately 519,416 million baht, or a 3.6% increase. Overall, food exports for 2020 are projected to be worth 1,025 baht, a 0.8% increase from the previous year. The main products expected to increase in export value are canned tuna, chicken, seasoning, and ready-to-eat food, while rice, sugar, starch, tapioca, shrimp, and coconut are expected to decline in value as economic activities recover and retail channels expand.
