Kurosh Khalili, the Director General of Gilan Fisheries, has announced plans to increase human consumption of the economic fish, Kilka, to at least 10% as part of a strategy to improve aquatic protein consumption. Currently, the majority of Kilka catches are used for fish meal and aquatic feed, but Khalili aims to boost human consumption through small-scale packaging and by setting up fish stalls, especially in Anzali fishing port. The affordable price of Kilka and its high protein content make it a good option for increasing aquatic protein intake, especially considering its current human consumption is less than 5%.
