60% of goose meat in Germany is produced in November and December

The goose season in Germany begins with St. Martin's Day on Thursday. Until Christmas, many people enjoy a roast goose in a restaurant or at a family celebration. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the months of November and December accounted for 60% of the 2020 annual production, totaling 2,923 t of goose meat. In the last two months of 2020, 1,753 t of goose meat were produced, 42 t less than in the same period of the previous year (-2.4%). This slight decrease could be due to the fact that the goose season fell in the middle of the second lockdown to contain the corona pandemic. In 2019, the share of November and December in the annual production of goose meat was slightly higher at 63%.
