A seven-day Boishakhi Fair jointly organised by the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation and the Bangla Academy will begin on the premises of Bangla Academy in Dhaka today.

The announcement was made at a press conference at the Bangla Academy on Sunday, said a press release. The fair has been organised marking the Chaitra Sangkranti, Bengali New Year and the New Year 1433 of the national minority communities. The fair will remain open to all from 10:00am to 7:00pm daily. A wide range of products, including agricultural goods and handicrafts, will be available at the venue. Cultural affairs minister Nityai Roy Chowdhury will inaugurate the fair as chief guest. The event, to be chaired by director general of Bangla Academy, will also be attended by industries minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir as special guest. The Baishakhi Fair is essentially a universal folk festival, Bangla Academy DG Mohammad Azam said, adding that like every year, it has been organised to make the New Year more festive.
