Farmers, including Jean-Pierre Lavigne in Sainte-Anne-de-Prescott, Ontario, are experiencing a significant increase in alfalfa crop yields due to favorable weather conditions, including a harsh winter that improved survival rates, an beautiful fall, and an early spring. However, the lack of rainfall in May and the high yields from previous crops have led to dry conditions for the current harvest. Despite these challenges, alfalfa's deep root system has helped it maintain high yields, with 700 tonnes harvested from 150 acres. Rye and early spring crops have also performed well, while the lack of water has slightly affected the grass, festulolium crop. As of now, it's too early to assess the overall yield, with some areas still not starting the mowing process.
