A New Preservation Technology Helps Korean Pear 'Sail' into Southeast Asia

The first shipment of 4 tons of Korean pears from the Wolhang cooperative (Gyeongbuk province) successfully arrived at the Vietnamese port in the past May, opening up a new path for Korean agricultural products in the Southeast Asian market. Notably, instead of using air transport as before, the pears were shipped by sea thanks to CA preservation technology that helps control oxygen and CO₂ levels during transportation, thereby extending storage time up to 10-15 days while maintaining the fruit's quality, flavor, and freshness. According to the Korean Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA), CA technology not only ensures safety and quality of agricultural products but also significantly reduces transportation costs by up to 60% compared to air transport.
