The Brazilian Zebu Breeders Association (ABCZ) is working to expand zebu breeds internationally, notably in Guatemala. They have initiated the process of inspecting around 1,500 Gir, Guzerá, Nelore, Nelore Mocho, Sindi, and Tabapuã breeds to establish genealogical registration. This initiative, which involves visiting approximately 20 farms across Guatemala, aims to ensure the purity and technical inspection of zebu animals, contributing to the improvement of livestock farming and potentially boosting the export of zebu genetics. The genealogical registry will provide a way to verify the animals' origin and adherence to the breed standard. This initiative marks a significant step towards advancing zebu genetics in Guatemala, with a partnership between ABCZ and Guatemalan organizations formally signed during Expocruz 2023 in Bolivia.
