The article reports a decrease in the slaughter of acorn-fed Iberian pigs in the 2022/2023 montanera campaign, with the most significant drop in pastures in Portugal (33.8%). The reduction in Spain is attributed to severe drought, leading to a decrease in acorns and the availability of pasture. Despite these challenges, the sector has shown resilience and quality commitment, with over 596,000 acorn-fed pigs slaughtered. The majority of these pigs were marked as Quality Standard, with some being PDO. Exports of Spanish cured hams and shoulders saw a 12.3% increase in 2022, reaching 590 million euros, with Europe, Asia, and America being the primary markets.
