The Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Dehydrated Alfalfa (AEFA) predicts that the 2021-22 campaign will see a slight decrease in cultivation surface, with a estimated 1,000 hectares lost. However, production levels are expected to remain steady or slightly decrease from the previous season, with the number of tons to be determined by weather conditions. Despite this, international interest in Spanish dehydrated forages remains high, despite challenges such as container shortages and high freight costs. AEFA is planning promotional activities in international markets and also aiming to increase consumption of dehydrated forages in Spain, which would have benefits for the local market and reduce imports of vegetable protein from outside the EU.
