Afghanistan's wheat harvest has seen a 10% increase from the previous year, reaching 4.83 million tons according to the Taliban-run National Statistics and Information Authority, surpassing the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) estimate of 4.3 million tons. The total grain yield was averaged at 5.2 million tons. Despite this increase, the country still relies on grain imports, requiring about 3.5 million tons annually to meet domestic demand. The cultivation for wheat involved 2.12 million hectares of land, with significant contributions from Helmand, Kandahar, Farah, and Kunduz for irrigated wheat, and Takhar, Herat, Badghis, and Faryab for rain-fed wheat.
