After losing its lead in soybean and wheat exports, the US is no longer the top exporter of corn

For over half a century, the United States has dominated the international corn market. The country was responsible for more than half of the world's supply. Maize is an important agricultural crop. It is used to feed livestock as well as in many processed foods. But the US is no longer the largest exporter of the raw material. The country gave the crown to Brazil and may never be number 1 in the world again. That's according to USDA data for the agricultural year ending Aug. 31. During that period, the U.S. accounted for about 23 percent of global corn exports, well below Brazil's nearly 32 percent, according to Agriculture Department data. Brazil is likely to remain the leader in 2024. So far, the US has always been the world leader in this regard, except for one year (2013) when a devastating drought affected American farmers.
