After Trump's tariff hike, exporter has sale of tons of honey canceled

The Sama Group, one of the world's largest organic honey exporters, had a sale of 585 tons of honey canceled due to the export tariff announced by Trump last Wednesday (9). According to G1 information, part of this cargo was already at the port ready for shipment. Founded 28 years ago in Oeiras (PI), the Sama Group is responsible for purchasing production from over 12,000 micro and small honey producers in the Northeast, mainly from the states of Piauí, Ceará, Maranhão, and Bahia. According to the company, the new tariff will increase the cargo cost by around US$ 6 million, impacting the final value of the product sold in the USA. With the cargo cancellation, the product accumulates and generates storage costs, as it needs to be kept in refrigerated chambers with controlled temperature.
