Egypt's Minister of Agriculture, El-Koseir, has urged the production sector to expand quail production capacity from 1,000 to 10,000 birds per session within three months at the Barley Island farm in Qalyubia. The ministry is also offering quail chicks to breeders at a cost of EGP 2 and is accepting pre-bookings. Quail, along with ducks and rabbits, are being promoted as alternative sources of animal protein due to their lower feed requirements compared to other poultry. The ministry is also offering quail eggs and meat, and rabbits, at various price points. This initiative aims to address the challenges posed by the rise in poultry feed prices by promoting the rearing of low-cost herds.
