Thailand's Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Dr. Chalermchai Sri-on, has initiated the Eastern Fruit Management Plan 2023 to enhance the quality and production of durian, mangosteen, rambutan, and longkong in eastern Thailand. Despite a decrease in the overall fruit tree situation in 2023, durian production is expected to rise by 4.85%, reaching 756,465 tons. However, mangosteen, rambutan, and longkong productions are predicted to decrease by different percentages compared to 2022. A special task force has been established to ensure only high-quality durians are sold, with administrative and legal actions against those selling inferior quality in Chanthaburi, Trat, and Rayong provinces.
