In October 2021, Brazil's agribusiness exports reached a record value of US$ 8.84 billion, a 10% increase from the previous year, driven by high international commodity prices. Despite a decrease in quantity sold abroad, the average export price rose by 25.8%. Imports also increased by 16.8% to US$ 1.4 billion. Notable price increases were seen in wheat, palm oil, and olive oil. Soy beans, pork, and chicken meat, and coffee were the highlights. China continued to be the main buyer of soybeans and pork, while fresh chicken meat found more buyers in Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and the European Union. Meat exports saw a record value and quantity, with chicken and pork. However, beef exports fell by 31.6% due to 'mad cow' disease, with China no longer being a significant buyer.
