The area of gray podzolic forest soils is the third area out of a total of 11 into which the country is divided according to the agroecological map developed by the specialists from the Institute of Soil Science, Agrotechnology, and Plant Protection "Nikola Pushkarov". The third agroecological region covers the strip along the main ridge of Stara Planina, which starts from the border with Serbia and extends to the Eastern Pre-Balkan.
