The price of asparagus in the US ends 2023 with an increase of 37%

The US market recorded a 37% increase in asparagus prices during week 51 of 2023. The product from Mexico is being affected by adverse weather conditions, marked by heavy rains and cool temperatures, aggravated by a succession of cold fronts in Baja California. At the same time, Peruvian asparagus supply faces similar problems due to unfavorable growing conditions. In week 50, prices stood at US$6.02 /kg, 44% higher than in 2022. The prevailing El Niño conditions have caused temperature swings, posing a special challenge for producers and transporters in Peru. Peru's asparagus supply is approximately 20% lower than a year ago.
