The Interprofessional Association of Lemon and Grapefruit of Spain (Ailimpo) has proposed to the European Union to replace the use of citric acid (E-330) in 'bio' products with organic delimón juice. The association argues that this is a natural and effective alternative. They have also suggested that the limitation on the use of ethylene in organic citrus fruits, as per a draft regulation, should be removed. Ailimpo believes that the change of color in the skin of citrus fruits due to ethylene use does not induce maturation, but only a color change. This proposal is part of the European Commission's consultation period on a Draft Implementing Regulation for substances and products authorized for use in organic production.
