The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has issued an alert this Friday about the presence of a staphylococcal toxin in cheeses that are protected by the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Cabrales and that have been produced by Quesería Rojo Prieto. According to the information available from AESAN, the initial distribution has been to the autonomous communities of Asturias, Madrid, and Murcia, although "it cannot be ruled out that there may be redistributions to other autonomous communities," this agency has indicated. Specifically, the batches of cheese in which the toxin has been found are 08125 and 08225 with expiration dates between 01/10/2026 and 15/10/2026 for 2.5-kilo pieces and in batch 08125, with the same expiration date range, but for 350-gram pieces.
