Alexandre Velho assumes presidency of Irga and bets on new markets and innovation

Alexandre Velho took office this Monday (2/9) as the new president of the Rio Grandense Rice Institute (Irga), in a symbolic act held at the headquarters of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation (Seapi), alongside the secretary Edivilson Brum. A producer with over 40 years of experience and former president of the Federation of Rice Growers of Rio Grande do Sul (Federarroz), Velho emphasized the importance of Irga for research, extension, and sustainability of the sector, which is responsible for 70% of the national rice production. In an exclusive interview with Portal Agrolink, Velho commented on the challenges of his management, highlighting the opening of new markets, alternatives for rice use, and strategies to face the high cost of production.
