The Algerian State Grain Regulatory Office (OAIC) has purchased between 500,000 and 550,000 tons of hard wheat of optional origin in an international tender with a planned minimum of 50,000 tons, reported the electronic publication APK-Inform, citing its sources among market participants. The wheat was purchased for about $315 per ton C&F, but only for shipments delivered by Panamax ships (which carry 65,000-80,000 tons), while shipments by Handymax ships (which carry 40,000-50,000 tons) see the price rise to $323-325 per ton. For comparison – at the last successful tender for the import of hard wheat in Algeria, held 5 weeks ago, 160,000-180,000 tons were purchased at prices of $348 per ton C&F for shipments by Panamax ships and $360 for shipments by Handymax ships, and at the tender in Tunisia 2 weeks ago, the delivery of 100,000 tons was agreed at prices between $317.99 and $321.29 per ton C&F.
