Spain: Melon and watermelon in Almería reach the halfway point of the campaign with higher production and profitable prices

(R.P.) - The price of watermelons has fallen slightly as supply has increased, mainly with the start of harvesting of crops from Poniente Almería. The mini type is sold at an average of seventy-three cents, the black watermelon manages to stay around one euro per kilo and the striped one is sold at an average of eighty-two euro cents. Both in the domestic market, as well as in Germany, France, Poland and the Netherlands, the main destinations for watermelons from Almeria, demand remains active. Of all the melons, the piel de sapo type is the one that has fallen the most in price with average cuts of seventy-five cents, the Galia remains between one euro per kilo and eighty cents, the Cantaloup continues with very high values with an average of one euro and thirty cents and the yellow has an average cut of ninety euro cents per kilo. The supply of melon continues to be lower than that registered on the same dates last season, a circumstance that benefits the prices of this product. ...
