In week 18, Almería emerged as the primary supplier of melons to the European market, as the melon supply from overseas and Senegal had exhausted. The quantity of melons brought to market this season is significantly lower than the previous season, leading to a substantial increase in producer prices, which are now 60 to 70% higher. The sales of Piel de Sapo melons, primarily consumed in Spain, began in week 18, and the Cantaloupe melon, favored in France, is grown on approximately 300 hectares in Almería. Factors such as shrinkage in the acreage in major countries of origin and reduced yields in Almería have resulted in optimistic price expectations for this season. Conversely, the supply of Galia melons has decreased due to a reduction in acreage and quality issues, resulting in persistently high prices.
