Amasya, a city in Anatolia famous for its apple production, has seen a significant increase in cherry production, rising from 38 thousand tons last year to an anticipated 52 thousand tons this year. This has catapulted the city to the 3rd largest cherry producer in Turkey. The city's governor, Mustafa Masatlı, mentioned the geographical indication for the '0900' cherry type and the distribution of 62 thousand cherry saplings in the past two years. The cherries are sold locally and exported to countries such as Iraq, Syria, Russia, and European nations, with prices ranging from 10 lira to 60 lira per kilogram.
