Boron for potatoes is not only a nutrition factor but also an element that triggers the auxin hormone. Which in turn affects the development of the root system and, accordingly, the formation of tubers. Together with calcium, boron also helps potato plants resist a disease such as alternaria. By introducing these elements, the number of fungicides used against the disease can be reduced, says the expert.

Boron for potatoes is not only a nutrition factor but also an element that triggers certain processes within the plant itself. Oleh Tarasenko, technical support manager at Adam Ukraine, spoke about this. For example, the specialist says that in the current season there was cool weather with many rains in potato growing regions, so stolons are typically numerous and very long. However, tuber formation was delayed. "Boron contained in leaves triggers a hormone like auxin. And this hormone affects root system development. That is, with sufficient boron, the plant would not grow upward since it was cool, but would primarily develop its root system. And since auxins also influence tuber formation, the processes would be balanced and plants would develop evenly," Oleh Tarasenko said. And since heat eventually began, stolons under such conditions can go into stems, while the plant no longer has enough energy for sufficient tuber production. So boron helps avoid these phenomena by ...
