A new sorghum hybrid, developed in collaboration between the International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and the African Seed Company, is set to increase yield by 25% compared to existing varieties, with a potential yield of up to 8 tons per hectare. The hybrid, which is resistant to common leaf diseases and adapted to Sub-Saharan African climatic conditions, has been released for commercialization after performing well in tests. It is expected to be used in the production of traditional dishes and alcoholic beverages, and is also nutritionally and environmentally beneficial.
