A recent report by Oil World has revised the global sunflower processing forecast for 2021/22 down by 3 million tons, attributing the decrease to revisions in estimations for Russia and Ukraine, while other countries' figures have been adjusted upwards. The report also anticipates a significant reduction in sunflower processing in Ukraine from March-May, due to conflict, with some uncertainty about the resumption of the processing industry. In the EU, sunflower processing volumes are projected to rise, with Romania, France, Hungary, and Spain seeing the largest growth in refining. This reduction in sunflower processing is expected to significantly decrease world sunflower oil and meal production and exports.
